In November, 2013, Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) made landfall in Eastern Samar of the Philippines as the largest storm in recorded history. Despite being accustomed to weathering multiple typhoons a year, local communities were ravaged by the storm. Typhoon Haiyan destroyed homes, infrastructure, economic assets and claimed over 6,000 lives in the region.
