Community and Project Description:

Surf For Life is teaming up with the Tonga National Youth Congress (TNYC) to build a virgin coconut oil (VCO) and vanilla processing facility on the island of Vava'u. This facility will enable local farmers to capitalize on the year-round supply of coconuts and vanilla for export to countries like Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. The new facility will also create employment opportunities for young people that have graduated from high school. Currently there are not many jobs available to Tongans outside of the tourism season, which only lasts half of the year.

Tonga is a Polynesian kingdom made up of 3 island groups comprised of 177 islands in total, mostly uninhabited. The islands are covered in tropical rain forests, lined in white sand beaches, and surrounded by coral reefs and crystal clear waters. The culture is extremely laid-back and peaceful. Coconuts grow everywhere!
